Osteopathy is often described as a treatment for bad backs. And yes, I treat a lot of back pain. But osteopathy is far more than that, and I think it deserves a proper explanation.
At its core, osteopathy is a hands-on form of medicine built on one principle: structure and function are inseparable. When one part of the body is restricted, compensating patterns appear elsewhere. A stiff mid-back can contribute to neck pain. A tight hip can load the lower back. My job is to identify where those patterns are coming from, not just where they hurt, and treat at the source.
I trained for four years at the University College of Osteopathy in London, one of the leading training institutions in the UK. What I love most about osteopathy is that it demands you treat the whole person. How you move, how you sit, how you breathe, your history of injuries, your stress levels, your sleep. All of it matters.
What to expect in your first session
Your first appointment is 60 minutes. I will start by taking a thorough case history, because understanding the full picture before I touch anything is non-negotiable for me. From there I carry out a physical assessment, observing how you move and identifying areas of restriction, tension and imbalance.
Treatment usually begins in the same session. Depending on what I find, I may use:
- Soft tissue therapy to release tight muscles and fascia
- Joint articulation to restore movement to stiff joints
- Cranial osteopathy, a gentle and precise approach I find particularly effective for pregnancy, postpartum recovery and anyone who needs a lighter touch
- Rehabilitation exercises to reinforce what we have done in the session
Who is it for?
I work exclusively with women. Not because osteopathy is a women-only discipline, but because I want to offer a space where women feel completely at ease. The female body changes significantly across a lifetime, from puberty through pregnancy, postpartum and into perimenopause, and I believe those changes deserve specialist attention and understanding.
You do not need a GP referral to see me. If you are unsure whether osteopathy is right for your situation, send me a message and I will be honest with you.
