Postnatal Osteopathy Chelsea
Your body goes through a great deal during pregnancy and birth. Osteopathy can help you recover well, move more comfortably, and feel more like yourself again in those demanding early months.
Book a Postnatal AppointmentRecovery After Birth Takes Time
Whether you had a straightforward vaginal birth, an assisted delivery, or a caesarean section, your body has been through a significant event. The postpartum period is often underestimated. Ligaments that loosened during pregnancy do not snap back immediately, the pelvis and lower back remain under considerable load, and fatigue makes everything harder to manage.
Osteopathy in the postnatal period focuses on the whole body. That means looking at your pelvis, lower back, thoracic spine, ribs, and even your jaw and neck, because all of these areas are affected by the demands of new parenthood. Amina works only with women, which means these conversations are open, honest, and completely without awkwardness.
The Physical Demands of New Parenthood
Most new mothers are not told how physically demanding the early weeks and months will be. Feeding, whether by breast or bottle, can mean holding a particular position for hours each day. Carrying a baby, getting in and out of a low car seat, and nights of broken sleep all accumulate. Many women notice neck and shoulder tightness that did not exist before, or find that lower back pain they thought would resolve after birth has actually got worse.
Posture during feeding is one of the most common contributors to neck and upper back pain postnatally. It is very easy to round forward and look down, and when you are doing this repeatedly through the night, the strain builds. Osteopathy can help address the tension that builds in these areas and offer practical guidance on positioning.

What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your first session starts with a thorough case history. Amina will ask about your pregnancy, your birth experience, any symptoms you are currently managing, and what you would like to get out of treatment. From there she will carry out a physical assessment and discuss her findings with you before any treatment begins.
Treatment is hands-on and may include soft tissue work, articulation, and gentle mobilisation, always tailored to where you are in your recovery. Many women find that a short course of treatment alongside some practical home advice makes a meaningful difference.
You are also welcome to bring your baby with you. Amina works from a calm, private clinic in Chelsea, and you will not be rushed.
NO GP REFERRAL NEEDED
If you would prefer treatment at home, a mobile home visit is available at £200 for 60 minutes. If you are also interested in returning to movement and exercise, online coaching sessions run alongside treatment.
Pregnancy and postnatal care are closely linked. You can read more about osteopathy during pregnancy on the dedicated page.
Before you book.
When can I start postnatal osteopathy?
There is no fixed waiting period. Many women come for an initial assessment within the first few weeks after birth. For caesarean births, Amina will adapt treatment based on how your recovery is progressing. If you are unsure, get in touch and she can advise you directly.
Can I bring my baby to the appointment?
Yes, absolutely. Many postnatal clients bring their baby with them. Amina is flexible and understands that feeding or settling your baby may happen during the session.
Will osteopathy help with pelvic floor issues?
Osteopathy works with the musculoskeletal system around the pelvis, including the sacrum, coccyx, hips, and lower back, which can influence pelvic floor function indirectly. For specific pelvic floor rehabilitation, Amina may recommend working alongside a women's health physiotherapist.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book directly without any referral. Amina is a registered osteopath with the General Osteopathic Council and can assess and treat you independently.
Is postnatal osteopathy covered by health insurance?
Many private health insurance policies cover osteopathy. It is worth checking your policy details before your appointment. Amina can provide a receipt for you to submit a claim.
